London Hat Week 2015
Over the centuries Britain’s love affair with hats has continued to burn, at times more brightly than others admittedly, but even when fashion hasn’t favoured our headlining accessory, a wistful pining for the days when hat wearing was de rigour remains. To this very day a plethora of “hat” expressions continue to populate our every day language – from “Hat trick” to “Hang on to your hats” or “Mad as a hatter”, it would seem that at some point hats invaded our national psyche and never really left.
To celebrate this national love of millinery, “London Hat Week” will return for it’s second year. Running from March 26th – 1st April 2015, this annual collection of hat related events run by individuals and organisations across London will gear up to satisfy our appetite for head turning hat wear. There is even a London Hat Walk on Sunday 29th March 2015, inspired by the passejada amb Barret (The stroll with a hat) in Barcelona, which is entering it’s eleventh year and currently attracts around 1,000 participants sporting hats of all descriptions. The London version invites everyone to turn up in their favourite tittfertat (Cockney rhyming slang for hat) and join in the joyous celebration as people walk together through central London. For more information on where to register for this and other events during London Hat Week visit the website www.londonhatweek.com and enter the magical world of all things millinery for a week. Although be warned, if you are anything like us at Gabriela Ligenza, one week will not be enough and then, who knows where it will end!
